Thornham to Old Hunstanton
Distance: Approx 4.5 miles
Time: 2 hours 5 minutes depending on pace
Start: High Street, Thornham, Norfolk PE36 6LY
1. To start the walk, begin on Thornham village main road, bear left and you’ll reach a road on the egde of Thornham village (grid ref TF733437). Continue to follow this path (signed Norfolk Coast Path). You will reach a waymarked path on your left (grid ref. TF728438), continue to walk north along the lane. You will now be at Staithe Lane, this path bears right and then left to reach the path that passes saltmarsh on your left. Turning North you will enter the Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve, the onward route then passes a small plantation on your left (grid ref. TF715450).
2. Continue along the coast passing another area of saltmarsh to your right and turn right here. Once reaching Flaxley the path briefly turns inland to reach a junction of paths (grid ref. TF696439). On your left is a links golf course. The path then passes through sand dunes dotted with beach huts.
3. Continue walking in a westerly direction with sea to your left, following the clear marked Norfolk Coast Path. You have now reached Old Hunstanton.

Before returning to Thornham why not explore the beach area at Old Hunstanton with its cliffs comprising of layers of chalk and sandstone. If you wish to return to Thornham you will be able to catch a short ride on the Coast Hopper.
