Thornham to Holme-next-the-Sea
Distance: Approx 3.5 miles
Time: 1 hour 15 minutes depending on pace
Start: Church Street, Thornham, PE36 6NJ (approx location) grid ref. TF733434
Walk past the church in Thornham and follow the road. In the distance, you will be able to see the sea as you continue to walk down the road. Just before the road bends right, you will see a footpath on your left. Turn left and take this footpath.
Follow this footpath, through the trees, across the bridge and across the field until you reach the road. During this part of the walk you will see some stunning scenery and you’ll be likely to stumble across varied wildlife.
Cross the road and join the sea wall path. Follow the track along the path. As you are walking along the section, you will walk along the creek which further along becomes marsh land.
In the distance, you will be able to see pine trees, meaning you are now close to the Nature Reserve. The path becomes a boardwalk, while other tracks lead through the dunes to the beach.
As you approach the pine trees you will reach the entrance to the Bird Observatory (if you want to visit you will need to buy a ticket).
If you choose to continue the walk to Holme-next-the-Sea, head down the steps, walk along the path and head towards the trees. As you continue down the path you will reach Holme Dunes. (Don’t forget your binoculars!) You will see incredible wildlife along this part of the Norfolk Coast Path such as redshank, curlew and egrets just to name a few.
As you continue to walk along the Norfolk Coast Path, heading towards Holme-next-the-sea, you will walk along another board walk which then turns into a gravel path.
You will then walk past the Norfolk Wildlife Trust car park and reach the outskirts of Holme village. Follow the path by the side of the golf course. Then follow the signs that direct you to the bus stop. Walk straight across the golf course path until you reach the road.
End: Beach Road, Holme Next The Sea, PE36 6LG (approx location) grid ref. TF698438
